Membership is open to anyone 18 years or over.

HOW TO WRITE TO PUBLIC OFFICIALS

When writing elected or appointed public officials:

  • Express personal opinions.
  • Check the spelling of the official’s name and exact title of the office.
  • Time the letter to arrive when the issue is current. Fax or e-mail is best. US mail may take four weeks to arrive in Washington.
  • Include your address.
  • Present a concise statement of the reasons for your position.
  • Make letters concise; organize your facts.
  • Describe a bill by its number or by its popular name.
  • Include your address.
  • Write letters of commendation when the official has done something of which you particularly approve.
  • Fax or e-mail is best. US mail may take four weeks to Washington.
