HOW TO WRITE TO PUBLIC OFFICIALS
When writing elected or appointed public officials:
- Express personal opinions.
- Check the spelling of the official’s
name and exact title of the office.
- Time the letter to arrive when the issue
is current. Fax or e-mail is best. US mail may take four weeks
to arrive in Washington.
- Include your address.
- Present a concise statement of the reasons
for your position.
- Make letters concise; organize your facts.
- Describe a bill by its number or by its popular
name.
- Include your address.
- Write letters of commendation when the official
has done something of which you particularly approve.
- Fax or e-mail is best. US mail may take four
weeks to Washington.
