Time to Learn More about the
Vibrant Denver Bond Package

Denver voters may be asked to vote on a large bond issue in November. The Denver City Council is currently reviewing the Mayor’s "Vibrant Denver" proposal, which includes a number of infrastructure projects as well as capital improvements across Metro Denver. The total package is now estimated to include $935 million of debt-funded projects. While all of this funding may seem counter-intuitive at a time when the city contemplates the loss of federally funded programs and local belt-tightening, Mike Johnston, Denver’s Mayor believes these projects are crucial to positioning Denver competitively among cities our size for the future.

The City Council members want to ensure that the mayor’s proposals benefit each of their districts. They must decide by August 25 whether to refer the proposal to the ballot for voter approval. A public hearing has been scheduled for the City Council meeting on July 28. The Council still has the opportunity to amend the project list and make alternative recommendations before the final vote.

If the Council refers it to the voters, we will cover the Vibrant Denver proposals and the cost of them in our full Ballot Issues briefing on October 14.

I have including several links to media articles and the Denver.gov website below for more information.
