Education Fund

Purpose
The League of Women Voters of Denver Education Fund is a 501 (c)(3) citizen education and research organization. It works to encourage the active and informed participation of citizens in government and to increase understanding of major public policy issues.

Voter Service
Voter Service serves an important function for the Denver community. Through its efforts the public gains access to factual and unbiased information about the government and politics, information that guides citizens to their own opinions on candidates and issues and promotes active participation in government.

Voter Service includes providing information on candidates and issues at election time, encouraging eligible voters to register and understand their option to affiliate with a party, sponsoring nonpartisan candidate meetings, and encouraging citizens to exercise their right and privilege to vote on Election Day.

In addition, Voter Service offers briefings or workshops about the structure and functions of various levels of government for our members and other groups and observing and reporting on some 25 governmental agencies.

In all Voter Service activities, the League is neutral.

Projects
Under the auspices of the Education Fund, Leaguers will publish pro/con brochures about ballot issues, which are generally distributed for free throughout the communities of Denver. Leaguers also will register voters and conduct voter registration drives. Leaguers publicize information about the voting process and handle numerous telephone inquiries during election times.

A special project, “Kids Voting” is a collaborate effort between the League and Denver Public Schools to involve K-12 students during general elections. Students at participating schools cast their ballots in national and state races in mock elections. The League hopes that engaging students at a young age will result in their future participation as voters.

The League also collaborates with Channel 8 and Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation to tape candidate debates and issues forums that are broadcast on the public service channel.
