 | Denver League at No Kings III
Saturday, March 28, noon to 5:00 p.m.

League of Women Voters of Denver will once again have a tent at the No Kings Event at Veterans Memorial Park (across the street from the state capitol) on March 28. This is a LWVUS sponsored event and a chance to stand with others to speak up to protect democracy. As before, there will be a rally with speakers and a march.
- So come! Attend the event! Hang out at our booth or rally and march!
- Wear something League if you have it: t-shirt, buttons, etc.
- Bring a sign. Keep it nonpartisan. Focus on pro-democracy and pro-voting messages.
- As always when representing the League, we ask that you focus on the actions rather than on the people of this administration.
And we need volunteers for the table!
10:00 a.m. - noon - includes tent set-up
Noon - 2:00 p.m.
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Please email Lisa Haddox at lisa.m.haddox@gmail.com with the time period you would like to volunteer.
Graduated Tax Initiative
LWVDenver will be gathering signatures for the Graduated Tax Initiative that we first heard about at our fall Kick-Off event. If you would like to oversee signature gathering at the tent, please take a brief virtual training, please see information below. You do not need to do this to help at the table, but would support one aim of our event.

| Advocating Against the SAVE America Act
Letter from the LWVDenver Board to Bennet, Hickenlooper, and DeGette
Dear Senator/Congresswomen:
On behalf of your Denver constituents, League of Women Voters of Denver’s Board of Directors strongly encourage you to oppose efforts to enact legislation, such as the SAVE America Act or the Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act, which require additional and onerous citizenship documentation to register and to vote.
It is already a felony offense to register to vote or to vote as a noncitizen. Data over several decades, including from the Heritage Foundation, found only a minuscule number of potential offenders among the many hundreds of millions of votes cast (24 instances over 20-year period), demonstrating that the current law is effective.
Since 2006, the League of Women Voters has promoted nationwide efforts “to prevent the development of processes and laws that threaten to disenfranchise voters.” The Documented Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) bills currently before Congress, such as the ones referenced above, would disenfranchise millions of voters, especially women.
Two elements of the current version of the suite of bills are particularly onerous for Coloradans. Voters would have to show proof of citizenship in-person at an election office or include an ID for mail-in ballots. In Colorado, this undermines the very successful “motor/voter” registration process and the concept of a secret ballot.
Second, when voting, if you don’t have an acceptable document such as a birth certificate or passport with the same name as your voter registration, your vote would be provisional until you returned within 3 days to the elections office with acceptable documentation. Both documents can be difficult to attain and come at an expense if they are not readily available.
In addition, these types of bills would undermine integrity and voter confidence in elections. They are fallacious solutions in search of a problem. Please be steadfast in opposition to this suite of bills.
Thank you,
Sarah O. McCarthy and Susan Stark, Co-Directors of Program/Advocacy
