Weekly Update

Please Consider Signing This Show of Support Petition for Rank Choice Voting in Denver

Signing this petition will let City Council know that you want rank choice voting (RCV) in Denver!  Below is the text of the position.  You can also find out more about RCV and the LWVDenver resolution in support of RCV here.

Petition Text
We call upon our elected representatives in Denver to put Instant Runoff Voting on the 2026 November ballot.

Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) is a method of voting that allows voters to vote their values. (It's also called Ranked Choice Voting.) Vote for who you love and rank those you like – or can live with – as back-up in case there is an instant runoff.

Instant Runoff Voting requires only one election, which will save Denver millions of dollars. Runoffs are expensive and have much lower voter turnout.

Right now, our system often forces voters to choose between the "lesser of two evils" instead of candidates we genuinely support. IRV encourages candidates also to compete for second-choice support from their opponents’ supporters, which lessens the incentive to run negative campaigns.

Ranked Choice Voting is already being done in several Colorado cities including Boulder, Broomfield, Ft. Collins, and it will likely be on the ballot in Longmont this year.

With each election cycle, the benefits of ranked choice voting become clearer: greater voter empowerment, better candidate selection, more civil discourse, and a stronger, more inclusive democracy.

Let’s make sure every vote counts!

Observing City Council

An ad hoc subcommittee of Denver City Council is proposing to change the City’s budget process, including moving to a biennial budget cycle and requiring a public process to get resident feedback.  If approved by the full City Council, this would come before Denver voters at this November’s election. You can find more information on the City's website here: Budget Together Denver - City and County of Denver. Our Observer Corp volunteers will be observing the process and reporting back with updates as needed.
